Once there was a student aptitude test being conducted in a college, one such student who was a part of the test was very intrigued by the fact that the test provides a good accuracy and helps them know themselves so he asked his professor a question.
“Sir, What is a profiling tool and what is it used for ?”
The Professor calms replied, “A profiling tool is required for analysing the source and target data structures for data integration, regardless of whether the transformation is performed in a batch or real-time environment.
Profiling can be performed using only the utilities of the source data environment, but specialised profiling tools make the analysis process much more efficient, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. Some data-profiling tools can infer data relationships based on the actual data contents of various data structures. The names of the fields or attributes in the data structures can be used by basic metadata tools to infer relationships between data.”
The student was moved by the answer and to quench the thirst of knowledge and anxiety he asked the professor a second question ?
Then sir, "What is a Psychometric Test ?”
Psychometrics the word which so beautifully seeks its derivation from the Greek words for mental and measurement and refers to the branch of psychology concerned with testing, measurement, assessment, and related activities. According to the definition of psychometrics, it is the theory and technique of psychological measurement that quantifies knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and personality traits.
The student then asked “ How does it actually help to analyse these psychological quantities ? “
The professor again calmly replied, “ Dear child the test are differentiated and separated however it taps into different psychological aspects to let us and you know where you stand and what are you like, Cognitive tests – While an IQ test is the most common type of cognitive test, others assess a person's verbal, mathematical, and reasoning abilities.
Personality tests – These assessments attempt to assess aspects of a prospective employee's personality such as attitude, emotional adjustment, and motivation.
Aptitude assessments – Aptitude tests provide details about your ability to meet potential career demands. It assesses your ability to learn and apply a skill.”
The student then asked, "What is the different between the two and which is better sir ?”
The professor being very irritated this time replied, “Psychometric and profiling methods can be used to assess a person's innate qualities, preferred communication style, approach to conflict, contributions in a team environment, leadership style, and cognitive ability.
These resources can assist organisations in making informed choices about the talent they have and the talent they need.
So both of the tools have their roles and differences however they are like banana and mango both serve the purpose of food and are fruits however it just depends on the time, place and the situation, however both can be used together as well.”
